Remolition day out at the Playground

Article, Video and Photos

Early Saturday morning it was yet again time for me to get up at a ridiculous hour, bundle Myles out of bed and into the car before driving several hours to get our shred on. The location this time was the house of Ben Rye, Under 18s world freestyle champion, and the freestyle setup he had toiled away to create in his back garden. Arriving there about 9 (yes we really did get up early) we were greeted by Ben, Max and Theo with a much needed cup of coffee and a tour of the playground which looked awesome, quickly leading to everyone padding up.

To start the day we headed over to the jib park, newly built that week, to session the rails, tyre and post. Nose grinds and tail grinds quickly appeared from every direction before stalls on the tyre and 180 bonks on the post. But despite the fun of the jib the lure of the large drop in and beautifully groomed lumps quickly tempted everyone over to the freestyle set up. Here you had the choice of 2 lines, the old one which had 3 wooden kickers in a row and the new one which had 2 rollers after the drop in leading to the new larger table giving more of a floaty air than the wooden kickers. It was the old line everyone warmed up on as we were joined by Sam Frost, Richard Austin-Berry and Callum Beamish with 360s and backflips all appearing on dirt before long.

Once everyone's legs were thoroughly warmed up the foam pit was set up for everyone to try and rack out new, bigger and better tricks. As the 'burger king' Richard tried to get his backflips solid to take to dirt Myles worked on BS Rodeos/Corked 5s (they know the difference but I'll be damned if I ever do!) and Ben Rye tried stylish front flips. By this time though the sun started to get to everyone, mainly since we were so surprised to be joined by it, and we discovered there was a BBQ waiting for us back at the house, perfect! Big thanks to Ben's parents for having us and especially for the awesome lunch which was much needed after a morning of getting shredical in the sun.

Back over at the playground, after Myles had tried to kill everyone with a first attempt at driving, it was time to try the new large jump which Ben and Max had recently finished. Due to the floaty nature of the air grabs were the most popular over it and looked beautiful, however the nutter Callum who rode hard all day quickly whipped out a 360 over it and Myles tried a real slow 180. Sadly though the harsh sun and buckets of sweat got the better of everyone as the day wore on and a jib session using the face of the large jump as a quarter arose with much stupidity and some genius.

Come half three though it was time for me and Myles to leave so as to deliver him to work that evening (although we later found out his boss had done him over and didn't need him at all... ARGH!). Big thanks to the Ryes for having us, a return will be required one day when my Coccyx is fixed and we don't have to hurry off for another awesome session.
