Trampa Challenge 2009

After a last minute change of venue, riders arrived at Court Farm Mountainboard center for the 3rd annual TRAMPA challenge 2009. The weather forecast was good, the track was prepared and it seemed that riders would be in for great, fun weekend of Mountainboarding. And that’s exactly what it was.

Friday night riding and partying kicked off the event in true TRAMPA style.

Saturday Morning started off with the ‘Enduro point to point’. This event has become somewhat of a tradition at the Trampa challenge and involves riders running up the hill, and riding down the hill to pass through checkpoints on the course. Tom ‘Jolly’ Reece set a fast Time early on in the session, and sore heads were to blame for many competitors slow times, however this didn’t phase Will Watson. Will charged through the course running on very little sleep and god knows what else to set the winning time of 4:17.

After a short break riders hit the boarder x track. This event was run a little different to usual, with riders being  drawn randomly to make up the draw for racing. This lead for some very interesting 2 man racing early on, with Simon Andrews put against Sonnie Dibben, Gary Crowhurst vs Trick and loads more close match ups.  As riders went on through to the next round, some of the highlights were Ryan Buntings backflip attempt off the last tabletop, Sam Nicholas setting record speed against Gary Crowhurst in a very close race.  Eventually Gary Claimed 3rd place, Simon Andrews 2nd, and Sam Nicholas in first place.

A BBQ Dinner was cooked and as the sun started to set on the longest day of the year, riders sessioned the freestyle park for a serve of Rail and ¼ pipe action. Simon Andrews was setting the rails on fire with some super smooth FS Boardslides and boardslide 270 out attempts. Sonnie Dibben was charging in from the top of the park in switch, doing some massive rock and roll stalls. Ryan Slater then started doing trains with Sonnie, hitting the 1/4 pipe almost side by side, and while Sonnie was doing his rock and roll stall, Slater was doing Bert slides directly underneath. Other highlights of the night Jam included an appearance from local legend Tom Donaldson, dressed up in wrestling gear.

Riders woke up Sunday to some very light rain. The rain was enough to stop boarding for a while, however not enough to stop a game of backyard cricket. Nearly everybody was involved in the game, and the atmosphere was great.

Once the rain had cleared it was on to the Freestyle Jam. The Jam was very laid back, and more like a casual Sunday morning session to begin with. As the session went on, the intensity of riding grew, and by the end riders were trying all sorts of tricks they had not tried before. Tom Reece, was determined to Nail his BS rodeo, and about 8 attempts later, he got pretty dam close to riding out smooth. Ryan Slater and Sam Nicholas had switch frontflips on the go, which resulted in a few interesting bails. Kynan was going absolutely HUGE with some very clean FS 5’s and 3’s. In the end Gary Crowhurst claimed first place in the rider voted contest with some incredible tricks, including BS 540 to switch BS corked 5, ( uber smooth)  corked 7 attempts and loads of other flip, spin variations.

And that was the end to an absolutely top weekend. TRAMPA would like to thank Nicki and the rest of COURT FARM MBC for hosting the event, Tom Donaldson, Sam Gribbon and Sam Nicholas for working on the Track, Roy for keeping the lift truck circulating all day, and everybody for coming along and supporting the event.
