A Full report on the totally tasty finale! It was Saturday 12th September 2009 and time for the final jibtastic round 3 of Cream Tea's and Jam. Where else better to finish the series but Bugs Boarding in the heart on Gloucestershire, in the West Country-the home of the English obsession: afternoon Cream Tea "umm pass us more of that clotted cream will ya" Well, the centre was looking good as always and a new small wallride had appeared half way down the grass slope as well as a couple of new rails and a slightly odd wooden roller in amongst the normal collection of rails, wood wedges and the odd box. The plan was four sessions, starting on the rails and wedges then the quarter then on to the hip then a bit of a break for tea ("this is a civilised comp don't you know") before finishin' up in the bowl on the drops and the big flat-down-flat box. A small but perfectly formed group riders had turned up to get steezy on this briliantly sunny day. Aj's obviousy still has the weather Gods working in his favour after last years caning by them when he and Fatface needed them most... So the sene was set for another wicked sesh BFC style, no fuss, no dramas, just good times. All was left to for us folk not riding was to grab a can of Monster and enjoy. First up was a sesh on the rails, wallrides and wedges: this session was full of boadslides, grinds and the odd backflip courtesy of Tom Kirkman. The proffered line by the riders was the flat rail at the top then gap to small wallride followed by wooden wedge and finishing with the bigger wallride at the bottom. Riders were going mental in the gap to the small ride, with floaty 3's, stalled 180's and the odd 5 thrown in for good measure. TK was rippin' the park to bits showing he is as good on small features as he is on the dirt monster jumps further up the park. Rory was showing his style isn't just for youtube. By back lipping the flat rail at the top and other assorted rail/rotation combo's. It was also good to see John Burton showing Masters are into jibnige as much as the youngsters. Oh and not forgetting Sam Nicholas going for the worlds longest MJ record, nice one. After the votes were collected from riders (All the events are rider judged with each rider nominating who they think rode the best in each section and the votes being added to find the winner) riding moved over to Bugs' massive sixteen foot quarter pipe. Not-so-many takers for this but those who did were going huge. How does Renny get so much sick hang time? Not to be outdone, Alan Newman from (Ride The Hill) showing some creativty and scoring best trick with air to MJ on the deck of the quarter. Of course a vert sesh wouldn't be complete without an now trademark Rodeo from Tom... Next up was a sesh on the hip more floaty 3's a la Mr Renny Myles well he wasn't the only one Jamie Johnstone was floatin' over the hip as well and other peeps were throwin some quality grabbage, TK was thrownin in the odd front flip for the crowd as well as any other trick he thought would look sick over Bug's massive hip with his trade mark effortless style (which bought in the World Freestyle crown for the second time a couple weeks before). Steve Cowney even surprised himself by landing his 3, so much so he went up and gave it another go to make sure it wasn't a fluke! yeahhh Cowney. After some buttering up of different kind- on some scones and not on the hill- and a bit of mini ramp sesh, play moved over to the bowl. The sun was beating down and peeps had been shredding for most of the day making for some pretty tired and red riders, so it was a pretty chilled sesh, but everyone was still there doing their thang... Whether it was 3's in one of the drops or going for some smooth style over the lip out the bowl. You know what we mean no hucking for that extra half-spin, just smooth rotations with quality grabs. Even BX racers like Scully showing they have a bit steeze about them when the suns out and the sesh has such a sweet laid back vibe. Tom was still killing it with smooth rotations on the larger of the two drops to front flips out the bowl to slashing the face of the big tabletop behind the bowl. Oh and we can't forget the nose bonk 3 on the barrel. TK wasn't on his own with the tech, and the skill Rory M to the P was stepping it up. With a big smooth boardslide on the flat-to-down-to flat box on the edge of the bowl. Which is no mean feat, because isn't exactly the smoothest looking box or the smallest, and when you get to the end of it there is about a six foot drop... Rory had it locked second go and went to ride like he could ride it with his eyes closed. After about half-an-hour, the riders had pretty much tricked themselves out, heralding the last session of the last round and closing this years Cream Tea's and Jam series. All that was left was for Rhys to crunch the numbers and do the final prize giving... Well done Everyone! So Tom won this event taking the series win, with Rory Mundell Perkins in second and Renny Myles in third.... Many thanks to the sponsors ATB Shop and MBS for prizes and for Bugs Boarding hosting the last round, also to the other hosts of the previous 2 Cream Teas, Knockhill & Wanyi Park. Props to the BFC for their laid-back hard work. Thanks to everyone who came to the events, and mad props to all the riders who turned out for all three rounds, without you there would have been no point :) Chin chin!
