East Anglia's riding crew has fun in the sun

flippinfatboys

The Fatboys have been around for a good few years, they're a group of friends who love mountainboarding in all it's forms: from freeriding to the UK comps, centre meets, and now 'proper' freestyle! Here we get a short & sweet regional report from their latest (in-house) competition centre-jam...

FLIPPIN FATBOYS: FUN IN THE SUN

It was a scorching weekend at Out to grass in Herefordshire. Many of us matched in our bright red FATBOYS tops by the end!

The Harpers, Shane & Em, Flying Squirrel Mark and Lindsay arrived Friday night for a chilled evening. Then on Saturday, with the smell of breakfast in the air, the rest of the FATBOYS arrived...

After signing away our precious parts on the disclaimers and a bit of a warm up, the fun began.

We started with switch racing on the snake run;  Nat driving the tractor couldn’t understand how suddenly we all couldn’t ride our boards anymore! Stu did exceptionally well, earning himself a new design FATBOYS T-shirt. Em just screamed and fell off a lot.

We thought a holding-hands race would be silly, so proceeded to pair up goofy riders to regular. Turns out, a very high percentage of FATBOYS are goofy, must be something in the East Anglian water... Phil P and Phil H were a cut above the rest, jumping with joy whilst gazing into one another’s eyes ;)

This was a relaxed gathering so we inter-mingled some BorderX and Freestyle just for the fun of it. Phil H became well acquainted with the thistles on the berm and Em followed, ouch. It was Phil P’s first day riding downhill as he usually flies with a kite. He was endlessly throwing himself over the Freestyle kickers until Liz got a decent video clip and was well chuffed with his prize, a Scrub hoodie for ‘best newcomer’. Shane’s Fashion air and Stu’s delayed 180s impressed all. Mark nailed his first back flip on dirt, yes Back flip!! we were so stoked he was awarded a hoodie too.

By the time we got to the Buggies all interest in racing faded as we were enjoying ourselves too much. Monkey spent the day on his bike, we couldn’t persuade him to swap it for a board. He made friends with the many other bikers who have been made welcome by the centre and even tried out the BorderX. Skye entertained us all by singing the FATBOYS song (still haven’t got that last bit yet daddy)!

As darkness fell we all gathered around the fire, exhausted yet happy. Prizes were given, and mrs H, fuelled by Pimms, got overexcited about the Chinese Lanterns making it over the hedge.
