Film Festival ’13: The Movies

Get your popcorn, it’s the dopest edits from 2013’s Wheelie-Planking Film Festival with mini Rem reviews!

Don’t forget to watch in Full-Screen HD where available and please turn off your mobile phone (unless you’re watching on it). Thank you. Lights down…

‘Ruddy Marvellous’ (12.17): This beast from the Daydream Productions crew took the ‘Best Overall Film’ accolade. The first 2 minutes alone is a proper good edit! Art direction comes effortlessly to Matt & Emlyn with varied & creative shots, coupled with spot-on soundtrack lending it an optimistic dreamy feel. It’s the riding too that sets it apart, showcasing wicked playful & technical style- It features all the best footage from Remolition’s very own BackYard Jam Series (2 invite only slopestyle events) so was pretty much guaranteed to contain proper sick jibbing! Split into sections with the crew’s ‘Young Gun’ riders, this film is made even more stunning considering the average age of the crew is like 17… Ruddy Marvellous indeed!

*****

‘Mountainboard Norway 2012’ (8.47):  Mr Harry Jessop,  not content with taking home 2013’s Andre La Roche Memorial Trophy and Overall UK Champion in the Masters Category, also took the Film Festival Prize for ‘Best Rider Profile’ with this exclusive vid! He was going to hold it back for a mega-mountainboard-movie project he’s working on but Remolition convinced him that EVERYONE needs to see this film! (Pay it back by liking this stuff on facebook or something;)

Harry visited the beautiful home of the Northern Lights last year with his bro Jethro (who does a lot of the camera work) and friends (who luckily have quads) and found some unique freeride – treks out led them to virgin mountainboard territory. The scenery is incredible and Harry’s undisputed wicked skillz at scrubbing & speed control coupled with his ‘yep-i’ll-‘ave-that’ attitude come into their own. Boy these guys (& girls) are making us jealous! And yes, the river riding is possibly bad for your bearings but man it looks cool, so different, so fun. Go Team Norway!

*****

‘Mud, Sweat & 10 Years’ (11.23):  Emmeline & Shane, aka Tricky Media set themselves an EPIC task to take in over 10 years of mountainboarding in just over 10 minutes; all the thrills, spills, faces, and places. It was an emotional rollercoaster (copyright X-factor) going through all their footage, even having to source old film-cameras to play the vintage tapes on, then digi-fying it, then the mammoth task of editing, but oh! what an edit… That’s some dedication right there: they’ve created a nostalgic, sentimental and downright magical mountainboard opus for us all to savour and enjoy.

***

‘ATBA-UK International Mountainboard Series 2013’ (4.23): This second film that Tricky Media entered took the title ‘Best Event Film‘ for their fun-packed documenting of 2013’s UK Series- downhill, bx and freestyle. How these guys find the time to make these films as well as ride this much we’ll never know, but we’re sure glad they do.

*****

ATB Cycles‘ (7.10): Pixel Distort won the ‘Best Creative Film’ category at the Festival for good reason; Simon’s post-production, graphics and filters are coming into their own at last, being used to really add to the atmosphere.. The film takes in the love of free ride and freestyle as well as competition, is in awe of nature and the environment, and treasures friendship, fun and humour. We especially love the opening transitions, the sun-bleached freestyle montage and magical mountainboard moments…

*****

‘Bitch Please!?’ (4.45): Despite the dark start this riding montage soon slaps you round the face! Featuring some fast-paced & slickly edited footage of crossover (but mainly off-road wheelyboards) action with a manic bouncing Santogold soundtrack. Yep Daf Price & The Bitches Crew slammed some bitchin’ fun into this vid, which narrowly missed out on a Film Fest prize. Better luck next year!

*****

Shredding Sussex: The Movie(6.31): Knockhill regulars Ezra, Jamie and friends, collectively known as Shredding Sussex hit us with a nice old skool lo-fi feature. Honest, progressive riding of a playful, jibby nature i.e. kickers, mj wall rides, tent jumps, stacks, and a great intro featuring 2 quality massive 90’s lol. Good stuff SS! Keep ’em coming yo 😉

And finally tonight!

As a Brucey Bonus, here’s ‘Bugs Round 5‘ (3.00) the ‘Dirt Can’t Melt‘ entry which refused to play on the night, but now brought to you in glorious YooToob-O-Vision. Jack Dudley & Angus MacDonald do a great job of showing us what the ATBA-UK Championships at Bugs Boarding looked like, complete with exciting BX, sick freestyle including Joe Dickson’s mad double back, and Myles H doing some dancing. Quality.

I’d just like to say thanks to all film makers, riders, YouTube & Vimeo for making this all possible, my manager, my Mum & Dad without whom this would not have been possible, Jason Lee, Simon Cowell, and God (of Heaven). Thank you all.
